Osmangazi Bridge

Osmangazi Bridge

Osmangazi Bridge is the part of the Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir Motorway project which is major infrastructure project in Turkey. The motorway project is 421 km in length in total.

Osmangazi Bridge is the world’s fourth longest suspension bridge.

The bridge is located in one of the most seismically active area, so it is designed as a High seismic load resistant.

Project Summary:

Project Name: Gebze-Orhangazi-Izmir Motorway

Client: Republic of Turkey Ministry of Transportation General Directorate Highways – KGM

Employer: OTOYOL/ NÖMAYG (Nurol-Özaltın-Makyol-Astaldi-Yüksel-Göçay Joint Venture)

Bridge Contractor: IHI, Japan

Project Model: Build-Operate-Transfer

Motorway length: 421 km

Total Bridge Length: 2682 m

Main Span (From North tower to South tower): 1550 m

Side spans length: 566 m

Bridge width: 35,93 m

Tower height: 234,425 m

Bridge construction cost: $ 1.2 billion (approx.)

General Layout:

  • Navigational clearance profile 64,3×1000 m
  • Tower foundation (pre-fabricated caisson) at approx. 40 m water depth with base isolation.
  • Steel bridge tower- constructed by prefabricated elements, 22 blocks.

For Osmangazi Bridge- the world’s fourth longest bridge, precast slab fabrication has been conducted by Yüce Yapı.

For Osmangazi Bridge, precast slabs of working platform critical for heavy vertical loading and assembly precision on caisson foundation have been fabricated by Yüce Yapı. The project covering 440 tons rebar installation, 7120 m2 formwork assembly and 1470 m3 concrete casting was completed before the deadline.

Also Yüce Yapı was participated in fabrication of Osmangazi Bridge steel structures.

Fabrication of fences for floor diaphragms where elevators stop inside the Main Tower was carried out by Yüce Yapı. Fence components within 3D Bridge tower model given for each floor diaphragm have been separately modelled by Yüce Yapı by eliminating the risk of any overlap. This design phase was repeated for each floor diaphragms, any overlapping likely to occur between the fence and various materials such as cable, ventilation equipment, and elevator supports were eliminated during modelling phase, after the said design period, fabrication was conducted.
